Education

I was the first in my family to earn a bachelor’s degree.  I doubled down and earned two; mathematics and philosophy.  Then I doubled down again and earned a master’s degree and a PhD; game theory/optimization and statistics/machine learning, respectively.  I then did a short postdoc at Tsinghua University in Beijing, before moving to the private sector.

Education (and some good fortune) has allowed me to go from living a precarious minimum-wage existence to having a successful career and becoming a home-owner.  That’s why I’ve tried to give back.  I served on the Pilsen Academy Local School Council for 4 years.  I help organize the Chicago R User Group.  I mentored a team at the NASA Frontier Development Lab and continue to serve on their AI Technical Committee.  Of course, I also write blog posts here on data science.
